Can dry lining be used on damp walls?

Dry lining should not be installed simply to conceal an active damp problem. Moisture can remain trapped behind the plasterboard, where it may cause mould, unpleasant smells, damaged insulation and deterioration of the wall. Before installation begins, the source of the damp should be identified and repaired.
